Darth Voice Changer Review

There are times in life when you look back on the choices you've made and question the events that brought you to this point. When you feel like no matter how you tried, somehow you're stuck in fate's cold grip.

This is the first thing you see when you open the App for the first time... So now these people have my email address and God only knows what kind of spam-a-licious trash this will lead to. Let's get this over with.

Look at this gobbled mess of technocolored dream snot. This font is extremely offensive to my eyes.

Anyway, "Live" mode creates feedback unless you're wearing headphones, "Breathe" plays what you'd expect, "Meow"... yes... you needed a dedicated meow button because I couldn't just record my own voice saying meow. I didn't even bother with "Adjust", and honestly, I didn't know it was there until after I had already uninstalled it, and I am NOT downloading this App again... "Free Upgrade" no thanks, pretty sure we've been through this. "More Apps" heck no. which leaves you with "Record" and "Play" modes. But at it's best, you sound like a robot trying to protect their identity over the phone.

This App is free, and I guess you get what you pay for. But when I need to get through 3 different screens of advertisements every time I open your App, I'd say your method of monetizing is invasive and obvious. not to mention the blatant self promotion that pops up every time I play a recording.

This UI is disgusting. The back button placement makes no sense. The fonts used are ugly and unreadable. and figuring out how to export my recorded audio was anything but intuitive. If you really want to sound like Darth Vader, go big not cheap.

The Verdict:
Download this App, then throw your phone out the window of a moving vehicle going no less then 80 mph.

  1. Thanks for the great review - in terms of the good criticism.

The UI is not the greatest, and we hope to fix that in an update.

    - the e-mail dialog box you show is not related to any e-mail harvesting as your article suggest, but is simply because you have more than one account registered on your device - and GetJar needs GET_ACCOUNTS permission so it can remember your coin balance etc. Since you had more than one account registered on your device, it was simply asking you which account to associate your GetJar Gold balances with (though GetJar dialog box is a bit obtuse in that regard as well). You are correct however that it doesn't look good for the app developer when such a dialog appears

    - The only way we get your e-mail address is if you send us e-mail from inside the app (which many do)

    - "Live" mode is not real-time, but "Talking Tom Cat" mode - in that you speak and it repeats it back without having to press buttons. It works well in a quiet room though (so good luck using it on a motorcycle).

    - Your comment about Adjust being invisible to some folks is valid.

    - Free Upgrade is for using GetJar to get rid of ads etc.

    - Ad displays are banner ad as shown - and AppWalls (not shown more than once every 3 minutes) - but this is too frequent in practice (as you correctly suggest) and should be scaled back in an update.

    - Exporting audio is via Menu - Save/Share/Email etc.

Thanks for the effort to make a soundcloud sample as well - only thing to note there is that you need to speak a bit more like James Earl Jones, and you will get better results. Current voice is a bit tinny - but can be improved by going to lower Sample Rate etc.
